Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker made two-three best saves against Tottenham Hotspur.

It’s more of a lost cause for Saturday’s relegated side, but Alisson was still brilliant against North London. Two saves from James Maddison and Son Heung-Min were particularly noteworthy, and it’s encouraging to see at least one pundit – NBC Sports’ Robbie Earle – give the 31-year-old his due. “Alisson, by the way, made two or three great saves that a lot of goalkeepers in the league can’t come close to,” said the former Jamaica international.

“His form recently, away at Newcastle, great save against Almiron, great save again last weekend. He’s sharp again at the top of his game.”

Alisson continues his excellent form

With Liverpool looking like their old selves again, some might have expected Alisson to be less busy this season.

But with seven Premier League games to go, it’s clear the Reds need their No.1 as much as ever. Fortunately, Alisson is up to the task.

The two saves Earle refers to on Saturday were really number one. First, he stretched as far as he could to tip Maddison’s loop around the post.

He then made a save against Almiron at St James’ Park.

When Filo took the ball on his chest in the Liverpool area, you could feel the net start to flow quickly. But even though he hit the volley gracefully, Alisson was worth it. Two hands tipped the shot over the bar.

At this point, no one should be surprised to see this level of excellence from Alisson. But being good for so long is just not normal.

If any Liverpool fan didn’t already know, they should have been shaking their heads for a long time. The Brazilian has been stunning since his £67million move in 2018. But there is no doubt now: the Reds have the best goalkeeper in the world at their disposal. Long may it continue.
