can any of them stay the course to stop Pep Guardiola’s men winning ANOTHER title?

Last season they were forced to chase down Arsenal, eventually overtaking the Gunners in the final weeks of the campaign, but this time they were beaten. Pep Guardiola’s men won their first six league games, scoring 16 goals and conceding just three times. In seven years, they have already created the sixth title.

But they haven’t left and over the mountains yet. After a disappointing 2022-23 season, Liverpool bounced back to take 16 points from their opening six rounds, with Brighton on 15, while north London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal are close behind. Four teams are four points ahead of City, but can they stay on track? Mail Sport rate their chances of keeping pace with City and potentially moving up the league. Liverpool

The Reds have shown they can match City in the past, taking the title to the final day in 2018-19 and 2021-22, as they remain 18 points adrift of Guardiola’s side to secure their first Premier League title. title in the 2019-20 season.

Jürgen Klopp would prefer to forget last season, but his side seem to have found their feet again.

They have made it five wins in a row to climb into second place and there are already plenty of positives in their campaign. Darwin Nunez finally seems to be settling into life at Anfield, summer signing Dominik Szoboszlai has caught the eye with classy displays in midfield and Mohamed Salah remains one of the league’s leading strikers.

The Merseyside outfit have the firepower to challenge City and Klopp can call on Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo to play alongside Nunez and Salah.

But there remain some doubts over whether the team are strong enough defensively.

The club did not sign an out-and-out holding midfielder this summer to replace Fabinho, leaving them vulnerable to the counter-attack at times. Alexis Mac Allister has filled this role on several occasions, but has tended to play higher up the pitch for most of his career and is still adjusting to the position.
