Max Verstappen has revealed that he and Nelson Piquet don’t talk about motorsport or F1 when the Dutchman makes family visits. The reigning world champion has been in a relationship with the legendary former Brazilian racer’s daughter, Kelly Piquet, since 2020.
However, the Red Bull star is keen to keep his personal life and motorsport life separate, keeping a close circle of friends and often opting to stay out of the limelight in between race weekends. While other drivers are regularly spotted at other sporting events and shows, Verstappen prioritises time with his family in order to unwind.
Since 2020, this has involved spending time with his girlfriend Kelly, and her young daughter Penelope, who was born during her relationship with former Red Bull driver Daniil Kvyat. She is also the daughter of three-time world champion Nelson Piquet. Despite these connections, motorsport is not a regular topic of conversation at family gatherings.
Speaking to Formule1.NL about his downtime away from the world of motorsport and his distaste for the role that social media plays, Verstappen explained: “What I do privately is nobody else’s business.”
