The Soto saga continues on…

Seattle Mariners star outfielder Juan Soto? It has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?

Well, according to one MLB insider, it does. Anthony Castrovince of MLB.com proposed a mega deal that would send the Padres star to the Pacific Northwest.

Mariners get: OF Juan Soto and LHP Tom Cosgrove, Padres get: RHP Bryce Miller, OF Jarred Kelenic and SS Tai Peete (Mariners’ No. 10 prospect)”

The Mariners are looking to make a splash this offseason after missing the postseason last year and getting Soto would be more like a tidal wave for them. He would give them another power bat in their lineup and could pair well alongside star Julio Rodriguez

There has been a lot of chatter about a potential deal for Soto this offseason with him entering the final year of his contract, and it feels like it will happen at some point. Multiple teams have been linked to him, notably the New York Yankees, but Seattle makes a lot of sense as well.

“The Yankees are seen by many as the most obvious fit for Soto’s services, but don’t sleep on Seattle. The Mariners’ lineup really needs, as president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto has put it, “a banger who goes out and bangs.” Soto bangs and draws walks.”

With the Padres reported desire to shed salary this offseason, moving Soto makes all the sense in the world. They have been unwilling to retain him long-term, and his value is as high as it will ever be right now.

Losing Soto would hurt the team’s overall production, but it could be beneficial in the long run. San Diego has to look at the bigger picture, and right now, their finances aren’t doing too well after they went all-in over the last few seasons.

It remains to be seen if they will indeed move Soto, but many in the industry believe it will happen. If not this offseason, then we could see the star moved at the trade deadline next season.
