The American streaming giant was in talks to broadcast a celebrity golf tournament featuring professional golfers and Formula One drivers in June, as initially reported by The Wall Street Journal.

Netflix has been exploring investments in live sports broadcasting and is in the early days of testing live broadcasts; its first live event was a Chris Rock comedy special on March 4.

Rivals Apple TV+ and Amazon Prime Video have already added live professional sports competitions to their line-ups, acquiring the rights to MLS and NFL’s Thursday night games, respectively.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Netflix Cup, including how to watch it from home, at work, or on the road.

The Netflix Cup is a new competition that’ll feature celebrities from ‘Drive to Survive’, a docuseries about F1 auto-racing, and ‘Full Swing’, which followed some of golf’s biggest names during the 2022 season.

The tournament will include eight players – four F1 drivers and four PGA Tour players. Four teams will have to battle it out to win the contest, each with one driver and one pro golfer, playing an eight-hole match.

The competition is using a scramble format. In a scramble, players on each team will have to hit a drive. The teams then choose their best drive, and both players follow their own ball from that spot until the hole is complete.

The two teams with the best score will progress to one final hole to go all in for the Netflix Cup title.

The event is taking place four days before F1’s first-ever race in Las Vegas, the Las Vegas Grand Prix, on Sunday.
