New evidence in Scheffler case reveals 3 officers did not engage body cameras

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WKYT/WAVE) – Louisville Metro police have released an abundance of evidence from last month’s arrest of golfer Scottie Scheffler.

The evidence, which includes videos, photos and documents of what happened that day, was previously sealed due to the case still being active. Now that Jefferson County Attorney Mike O’Connell has dropped the charges against Scheffler, all the previously sealed evidence has now been released to the public.

The newly released evidence includes hours of video from bodycams and dash cameras around the scene of the incident. What is not seen is when Detective Bryan Gillis was allegedly dragged by Scheffler who was driving his PGA vehicle.

What is seen is the immediate aftermath, including Scheffler’s arrest, and Gillis explaining what happened. It’s clear from the video that Gillis had no idea who he had arrested at the time. He simply says it was a “player.”

Included in the new evidence are photos of the now infamous uniform pants that Gillis was wearing at the time of the incident. The photos show the uniform pants were partially ripped and that Gillis had a few scrapes to his arms and knees.

In the just released evidence are more than 30 pages of police documentation of the event. The documentation includes personal accounts from officers at the scene who witnesses what happened.

It also reveals that three officers, including Gillis, did not turn on their body worn cameras.
