Everton defender Nathan Patterson has been described by BBC Sport’s Steven Thompson as a talent who “plays at a very good level”.

The Toffees and Scotland’s talents received widespread praise as their country won 3-0 against Cyprus in Euro 2024 qualifying.

Patterson has been a regular for Everton this season, playing every minute of the Blues’ Premier League campaign so far.

The 21-year-old also played 45 minutes in Everton’s 2-1 League Cup win over Doncaster.

Patterson also won 14 caps for Scotland, a fantastic achievement given his youth. However, Everton’s crown jewel is now left out of the starting lineup by Brentford’s Aaron Hickey.

Thompson believes the talented Toffees and his Bees counterpart will have a good fight for the starting right winger position.

He told BBC Sportsound, according to the BBC Sport website:
“It’s going to be an interesting battle over the next few years, the right-back position.

“Both Hickey and Patterson are good players and are playing in very good form. Just now Aaron Hickey was wearing a jersey and he didn’t do anything wrong. “Patterson will push him every which way.”

It’s great to hear such praise about Patterson, a top talent with a bright future ahead.

Hopefully he can help Everton promote after a difficult start.

And given his place in the Scotland squad, he is certainly a must-have for the team if/when they qualify for the Euros.
