Micky van de Ven sees no reason to fear high-flying Liverpool when they travel to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday

Micky van de Ven insists Tottenham Hotspur are not afraid of Liverpool ahead of the pair’s Premier League clash on Sunday.

Both have made positive starts to the season, with the Red Devils trailing Manchester City in second place and Spurs currently occupying the final of the top four positions.

This is a huge improvement in performance levels and results for Liverpool, who have addressed their midfield shortcomings, while new Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has had the same effect. after re-entering attacking football at his new club.

The Red Devils’ next opponents have recently come from behind twice against north London opponents Arsenal. Although that means they fall behind Jurgen Klopp’s side in the table, van de Ven reckons the playing field will be level on Sunday.

“I don’t think we’re afraid of any other team. It would be strange if you were afraid of any other team,” he told Mirror. “If you go into a game and think ‘what a team they have’ then I don’t think that’s positive.

We are building something together that we want to achieve this season. I think things are going very well and we are helping each other. We fight for each other and we must continue to do so. I think this could be a good year.

“It was a difficult match. Of course, Arsenal has a chance. We also have a chance. You always want more, you always want 3 points. But in the end we got the points and we had to rely on Liverpool.”

The Dutch player may be able to play away if interest from Anfield management turns into an official offer. Formerly of Wolfsburg – the club which Jorg Schmadtke once helped run as sporting director – the two men’s commonalities have led to suggestions of a potential move for the 22-year-old.

Instead Liverpool focused their efforts on bringing in midfield reinforcements, allowing Tottenham to pounce and seal a £43m deal.
