Chairman Daniel Levy dropped the bombshell revelation about Harry Kane’s Bayern Munich contract as he made a rare appearance at a Tottenham fans’ forum

Spurs have a buy-back clause in Harry Kane’s Bayern Munich contract, Daniel Levy has revealed.

At the close of the transfer window, Kane eventually departed Tottenham, and the German champions paid over £100 million for the English striker. The 30-year-old has scored in all but one of his Bundesliga outings so far, which is a stellar start to life in Bavaria.

Kane should end his long wait for silverware, with Bayern winning the German top flight for the last 11 years. However, winning the Champions League will be at the top of his wish-list, having got so close in 2019 with Spurs, who were beaten in the final by Liverpool

It is unclear when that option would into effect, but it suggests Kane could return to the Premier League one day and attempt to break the all-time Premier League goals record, currently held by Alan Shearer.

Levy rarely makes public statements and his appearance at the fans’ forum was his first in five years. The chairman also addressed supporters in the wake of Kane’s departure last month.

He insisted Spurs had done everything in their power to keep their star player. Levy said: “We sought over a long period of time to engage Harry and his representatives in several forms of contract extension, both short and long term. Harry was clear, however, that he wanted a fresh challenge and would not be signing a new contract this summer.

We have reluctantly, therefore, agreed to his transfer. Harry’s achievements and records say everything about the player, and throughout his 19 years at the club, Harry has been a model professional, on and off the pitch and an inspiration for young players who dream of following in his footsteps.

“I should like to thank Harry for everything he’s done for us, all the memories, all the records – we wish him and his family all the best for the future. It goes without saying, he’s always welcome back. He’s a much loved and valued member of the Spurs family, forever in our history.”
