he Carolina Panthers offense has lacked punch.
With Bryce Young playing quarterback, the Panthers have struggled to push the ball downfield. Instead, the offense has looked like a dink-and-dunk affair in desperate need of a revitalization.
Recently, the Panthers’ offensive coordinator Thomas Brown revealed the reason why the team has struggled through the first four weeks of the NFL season.
“I think it all still boils down to being physical at every single position,” Brown said. “I think we’ve been that way at times, but we haven’t always been consistent.
“It still boils down to finding, creating, and winning matchups. And again, we’ve won some matchups, we’ve had some explosive plays here and there—but it hasn’t been consistent. It also boils down to the stuff that takes no talent. Way too many mental errors, way too many penalties. So, that is who we say we wanna be, we gotta prove that.”
The lack of consistency can be seen through the lack of separation wide receivers in the Panthers’ offense has generated.
Adam Thielen has been the offense’s security blanket. And creating winning matchups consistently means having other wide receivers who can win in one-on-one scenarios. Maybe that is why the Panthers continue to make calls regarding trading for a No. 1 receiver.
