Mahomes, who became an investor in Alpine’s F1 team along with Kelce and a host of other high-profile athletes last month, was making a brief appearance on coverage of the Netflix Cup – a unique celebrity golf event in Las Vegas featuring a number of racing stars.
While speaking with presenter Kay Adams, the Chiefs quarterbacks was asked which of his teammates would he not like to see drive an Alpine car – and Kelce was the name he quickly opted for.
‘Anything that has to do with Travis and fast cars or anything that’s dangerous,’ he added. ‘You’ve got to keep him away from them.’
Last month it was announced that Mahomes and Kelce were part of a $211million strategic investment into Alpine Racing Ltd through private investment firm Otro Capital.
Former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua, four-time golf major championship winner Rory McIlroy, Liverpool soccer star Trent Alexander-Arnold and ex-Premier League player Juan Mata are also on board.
Roger Ehrenberg – an investor in the Miami Marlins and Real Salt Lake – is another prominent addition.
Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney teamed up with fellow acting superstar Michael B. Jordan to take a 24 per cent stake in Alpine over the summer, a deal which took the F1 team’s value to over $850m.
At the end of his cameo on the Netflix Cup broadcast, Mahomes also had some unique advice for Alpine driver Pierre Gasly during his outing on the golf course in Vegas.
When asked by Adams to help Gasly out with some golfing tips, he replied: ‘I don’t know if this will work for him because he has a race this weekend, but every time I get on this stage I just get a few Coors Lights in me.
It kind of lets me loosen up and swing it hard and see if I can hit some good golf shots along the way.
‘The adrenaline gives you a little edge so you can get a couple of extras that you wouldn’t have on the golf course. Maybe four to five, that’s when you kind of get in that good zone.
