Recent local Homicide Convictions
We want to acknowledge the hard work of our Homicide Unit bringing justice and closure to the families of murder victims.
Two homicide jury trials recently concluded with lengthy prison sentences for those accused. LMPD’s Homicide detective’s investigation and determination made these outcomes possible.
Chris Gordon received a guilty jury verdict this week and was sentenced to life in prison for the homicide of Angelica James which occurred on 2/27/22.
• 80-22-010734. On February 27, 2022, at approximately 4:06pm, 6th Division officers were dispatched to 4101 Quiet Way on a report of a vehicle accident with people shooting. The run was then upgraded to a shooting. Officers arrived to find a female suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, and a 10-year-old with a gunshot to his hand. EMS arrived on scene and pronounced the female victim deceased. The 10-year-old was transported to the hospital for treatment.
Michael Smithers Jr. received a guilty jury verdict last week and was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the homicide of Chatariona Harrison which occurred on 2/2/18.
• 80-18-008486. 2nd Divisions officers were dispatched to 2118 Grand on a shooting. Upon arrival they discovered the above victim suffering from multiple GSW’s. Officers provided aid until care was turned over to LMEMS. The victim was transported to U of L hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Our Homicide Unit continues working diligently to make arrests and bring closure to those victims and their families. We continue to need the help of the community, to be the eyes and ears within their neighborhoods, and if they see something to say something. A single tip no matter how big or small, called or emailed in, could be that nugget we need in solving that case or any other ongoing investigations.
