On the depth chart, Reyes is initially indicated as Story’s preferred replacement. He has slashed.254/.315/.361 in 477 at-bats and a.967 fielding percentage in 269 innings at shortstop in six big-league seasons.
Hamilton, who made his Major League debut with the Red Sox last season and connected for four hits in 33 at-bats, appears to be the next man up right now. He slashed in 393 at-bats at Triple-A in 2023.247/.363/.438.
Gonzalez has played in three major league seasons for the Chicago White Sox, with 230 career at-bats and a slash line of.222/.239/.361, while only having 36 career shortstop innings. With three home runs and ten RBI in 24 at-bats, he slashed.375/.407/.958 to start the 2024 season with some power.
