Alasdair Gold says that while he expects Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to leave in January unless he manages to force himself into the starting eleven, Eric Dier might end up staying at the club.

Dier has not played a single minute so far this season and has even been left out of the matchday squad on a few occasions, but Ange Postecoglou explained last week that the reason for the omission was that the centre-back was dealing with some niggles (Football.London).

The England international, whose contract with Spurs runs out next summer, continues to be linked with a move away from the club, with The Times revealing a couple of days ago that Sporting Lisbon are plotting a  January move to re-sign him.

Meanwhile, Hojbejrg, who has been used as an impact substitute by Postecoglou this season, is thought to be on the radars of Juventus (CalcioMercato), Atletico Madrid (Mundo Deportivo), and Roma (IlRomanista) ahead of the January window.

Hojbjerg could leave and Eric Dier could stay at Spurs

Gold has now said on Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham about the experienced pair: “I think Hojbjerg, unless he gets back into the team before January, I think he will try to push to leave.

“Other than that, unless there’s someone I’ve forgotten, I don’t think Eric Dier will go, that will be counter-productive for him six months away from getting a free transfer wherever he wants to go.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It seemed pretty clear that the only reason Dier stayed at Spurs this summer was because of his intention to leave on a free transfer next summer.

One can understand why the 29-year-old would want to do so as he would have a lot more options to choose from if he is a free agent.
