The Times revealed that Tottenham are optimistic about James Maddison’s presence against Liverpool despite over-extending his knee against Arsenal.

Maddison suffered a problem midway through the second half at the Emirates, but continued to play for another nine minutes after receiving treatment, finally coming off in the 78th minute.

London’s Alasdair Gold revealed on Monday that the midfielder was moving normally after the match as he took over media duties.

He added that the England international’s initial feelings about his knee are “positive”, but he will need to have scans to make sure everything is okay.

Tottenham is optimistic about Maddison’s return

The Times said the current feeling at Spurs is that Maddison’s injury is not serious and the midfielder will recover in time to face Liverpool on Saturday. The report revealed the 26-year-old has been training at the Hotspur Way ground following the cancellation of a number of tests and will be closely monitored by medical staff over the coming days in case he feels uncomfortable.

Spurs web opinion

If Maddison feels a little uncomfortable, I don’t think Postecoglou will risk it against Liverpool because the 26-year-old is too important for us.

The problem for the Australian international is that Lo Celso is also currently injured, meaning he may have to face Johnson or Kulusevski in round 8 if the English international is not fit enough.
