Tottenham Hotspur’s defenders have all been left reassured by the presence of Cristian Romero alongside them, with the centre-back visibly maturing since being promoted by Ange Postecoglou

According to a story from The Athletic, there is a perception that the Argentine is more invested in the team than he has ever been.

Cristian Romero has had an impressive start to the season. Of course, the quality he possesses has never been doubted. But it seems Tottenham fans won’t mind seeing him sold after last season.

Romero was so poor in comparison with his first season in North London. And given how good he had still been for Argentina, there was a sense of frustration that he could not replicate that for Tottenham.

Tottenham defenders love playing alongside Romero

But the arrival of Ange Postecoglou appears to have changed a lot for Romero. The Spurs boss has promoted the 25-year-old to co-vice-captain alongside James Maddison.

And what could have appeared to have been a risk has turned into an inspired move. The Athletic reports that Romero has taken superbly to the leadership role.

And he is no longer responsible as a defender. The Athletic believes that Guglielmo Vicario, Pedro Porro, Micky van de Ven and Destiny Udogie all feel secure playing alongside Romero. The quartet all thought he would support them.

This is one of the great successes for Tottenham’s impressive start to the season. It’s remarkable to think that Vicario, van de Ven and Udogie had all yet to make their Premier League debuts before this season. Meanwhile, Pedro Porro struggled for much of his early time at the club. It speaks volumes that they have played so well together in recent weeks.

And obviously many people will attribute that to the leadership and qualities of Cristian Romero.
