According to the print edition of Sport (8/9/23), Tottenham Hotspur failed with an attempt to tempt former Barcelona sporting director Jordi Cruyff to the club earlier this summer.
More than four months on after Fabio Paratici resigned from Tottenham after he was hit with a ban for his involvement in Juventus’ capital gain scandal (Guardian), the North London club are yet to replace the Italian.
It was reported by Football.London’s Alasdair Gold that Scott Munn is officially set to begin work as Tottenham’s chief football officer this month and that one of the first orders of business for the Australian would be to find a sporting director.
One of the names that Spurs allegedly looked at earlier this summer is Cruyff, who left his role at Barcelona on June 30th. It was reported by La Vanguardia (via Sport Witness) back in May that Tottenham had registered an interest in bringing the Dutchman to N17.
Cruyff had no interest in joining Spurs
Sport have now also reported on Tottenham’s interest in Cruyff, revealing that the Lilywhites were one of many clubs to make offers to the 49-year-old once it became public that he would be leaving Barcelona.
It is alleged that Spurs ‘tempted’ him by calling him and explaining the project that they were envisioning over the next few years.
However, the report suggests that Cruyff ‘took very little time’ to reject the offer from the Premier League giants.

It would seem that Scott Munn and Daniel Levy’s desire to identify the finest person for the job, as opposed to simply filling the position with the best applicant available, is one of the reasons they are not in a rush to choose a new sporting director.
Despite his reported gaffes off the pitch at Juventus, Fabio Paratici made some great hiring selections, making him a difficult man to follow.
