It looks like Liverpool have indeed tried to sign one of West Ham United’s summer transfer targets. Liverpool and West Ham are both said to have made offers for the same player during the summer transfer window.

Hammers manager David Moyes and Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp are both eager to strengthen their central midfield at the London Stadium and Anfield.

In the end, that’s exactly what both clubs did, but Brazilian midfielder Andre is the one they remember. However, this ultimately did not happen and Andre remained with Fluminese. Today, the president of the Brazilian club, Mario Bittencourt, has hinted at the pursuit of one of his star players.

Bittencourt was talking to Lance about Andre’s current situation with Fluminese. And the president of the Brazilian club admitted that there were direct talks with Liverpool and the South American midfielder:

“There is an agreement between us, with the player and his agent, that he will stay until the end of the year and they are in full compliance and have complete peace of mind. What they do is represent the athlete he is:
all requests come in, they pass them to Fluminense. In the case of Liverpool, I went even further. The general manager of Liverpool contacted me directly. And I replied to him: ‘Friend, I don’t sell players anymore and now I don’t deliver. If you want to buy it now and get it in January we can start talking or if you want to wait until December and we will talk about it in December.

He is extremely versatile and can play as a defensive midfielder, in a mainstream central role or even further as a No 10. He is tenacious in tackles, strong in challenge, has plenty of energy and stamina and is the ideal choice for the Premier League.

Andre is one of Brazil’s brightest young stars and he would be a special addition to Liverpool or West Ham.

Judging by the Fluminese president’s comments, it seems the Reds are going the furthest in their efforts to sign the 22-year-old.

If the Merseyside side beat West Ham to sign Andre in January, that would be a huge shock for us, I think.
