Running back coach David Walker of the Chicago Bears was let go after receiving criticism for his conduct at work, and the decision was made with input from their HR department.

The Chicago Bears have reportedly fired their running back coach over his alleged behavior at the franchise.

It has been suggested that there had been one than one incident with the franchise’s HR department notified of Walker’s behavior before the decision was made to relieve him of his duties. A report in The Athletic has indicated Walker’s firing was not due to football matters but rather the team’s HR department getting involved due to his ‘workplace behaviour’.

Bears head coach Matt Eberflus confirmed the decision but dismissed the suggestion there had been an issue with the culture within the building. “As the head coach, we are building a program and have standards to uphold to as a staff and organization both on and off the field, and those standards were not met,” he said before adding that Walker’s dismissal was “disappointing from my vantage point.”

We need to maintain our standards,” he continued. “We take action when that norm is not fulfilled. We respond appropriately, and we carried that out today.” Walker had been the head coach of the Detroit Lions and Indianapolis Colts before joining the Bears a year ago.

He is the second coach to have left the Bears this season, with defensive coordinator Alan Williams leaving the team in September for ‘personal reasons’. The Bears HR department was also said to be involved in an incident with Williams, which was reportedly not criminal but enough for him to leave the team.
