Rio Ferdinand has shared that Carlo Ancelotti told him that Tottenham striker Richarlison will become ‘one of the best players around’.

The former star of Manchester United said that Richarlison was at Everton when the Real Madrid manager made these remarks.

At the time, as reported by Vibe with Five, Carlo Ancelotti, the Brazil star’s manager at Goodison Park, projected that the player, who was then in need of a transfer, would join a ‘high, top-tier team’ in the Champions League.

The 26-year-old joined Tottenham last summer while they were competing in the Champions League, setting a club record.

But in just a year, Antonio Conte was fired, Richarlison managed just one league goal, and the team was eliminated from the European competition.

Ferdinand, though, believes that the good times will eventually arrive after Spurs’ comeback victory over Sheffield United on Saturday, in which Richarlison came off the bench and changed the course of the match.

What Ancelotti said about Richarlison

“I like him as a player,” said Ferdinand. “I remember speaking to Carlo Ancelotti about him when he had him at Everton.

“He said ‘this kid will play for a top, top-tier team’. He will go to a Champions League team and he will be ‘one of the best players around because he is that good’.

“Harry Kane going, he could be the biggest benefactor of it, as a number nine at that club. He should be. He has to give himself a good chance.

‘I think this manager will stand by him, for a period of time and give him the time and patience. I think he brings so much more than just goals. He is a nuisance to play against. I think he will be hard to play against in that sense. He is always on your shoulder. He doesn’t mind a little bit of physicality. He’s cute in and around the box. He’s got good feet. Good awareness. And he will always get chances – I think, in the long run, I will bet for him doing well at Spurs.”

Can Ange Postecoglou transform Richarlison?

The Treble-winning coach at Celtic hasn’t been at Spurs for long, but his effect and change is there for all to see.

From the style of play, the way he addresses the press and his transformation of players.

Yves Bissouma, who struggled last season, has been transformed by Ange Postecoglou and Spurs fans will be hoping that Richarlison is the next man on his list.
