San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan may have gotten into the spirit of Sin City quite early.

Shanahan and the rest of the 49ers spoke to the media Monday during Super Bowl Opening Night. Some fans couldn’t help but notice that Shanahan was much more, shall we say, relaxed and casual while speaking to reporters than he usually is.

A few spectators believed that the 44-year-old may have had a drink or two before arriving at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nev. The well-spoken head coach appeared to be slurring his words a bit.

The San Francisco 49ers and Kyle Shanahan are preparing for their biggest game in recent franchise history when they take on the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl on Sunday.

And while Shanahan has been to two as both an assistant and a head coach, he’s never won one as the leader of a NFL team. .

He estimates he attended six other Super Bowls “as a family member growing up,” along for the ride to see his father, Mike, work in the big game during an illustrious coaching career.

There’s rapper Tech N9ne to your left, comedian Carrot Top on your right, and an Andy Reid impersonator in the crowd somewhere. For some reason. Oh, and across the field, Guillermo Rodriguez from Jimmy Kimmel Live is asking Chiefs offensive lineman Trey Smith to autograph his stomach. It’s more show than business, more entertainment than work — and that’s not just because we’re on a football field in Las Vegas. The opening five minutes of questions for Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes came from an 11-year-old kid, and they progressed through a two-player fantasy draft. That was new, but it still fits the flavor these things have adopted over the years, and that the Chiefs have been to enough of them that we can compare and contrast them is still a bit surreal when you remember they went 50 years without an invitation.
