While the defense has clearly been a disaster this season, the offense has certainly not been firing on all cylinders either.  A big piece of that has been inconsistency out of wide receivers who don’t have the last name Diggs on this roster.  Y (or number two) receiver Gabe Davis spoke out on his feelings about how he plans to get back on track. It’s not that easy, but you know I gotta do it,” Davis said. “I gotta be and do what my team asks me to do and all I can do is control what I can control. But, you know, I’m doing good in the blocking game and… real confident in that.”

Davis has been a serviceable run blocker but he has been virtually nonexistent as a receiver in recent weeks.  To be exact, Davis only has only targeted him a total of three times in recent weeks.  Davis has gone without a catch in three of the last four games and has struggled to make an impact on the usually supreme passing game of Buffalo.

“Me and Josh had a conversation and, you know, again, that’s what the game brings,” Davis said. “You know, we both know that we want each of us to be successful — my success is his success, and vice versa when he’s throwing me the ball. So, it’s not that we don’t want it to happen, but you know, the league is tough and all the stars gotta align for stuff to go your way all the time.”

Part of the struggle is that Davis is a team captain for Buffalo for the first time in his career and has been struggling with his new responsibilities.  While it’s not exactly what I would like to hear from a star receiver on my offense, you have to give the young wideout credit for taking responsibility and acknowledging his role as an issue.
