“Surgery”: Coventry City manager acknowledges a player’s season
The well-liked Sky Blues forward underwent a small operation to address a cartilage issue, but he has already experienced another injury setback.

Jodi Jones, a forward for Coventry City, had more surgery, which seems to have ended his season.
Three successive cruciate knee ligament ruptures that ended the 24-year-old’s incredibly promising career in 2017 while he was leading the Sky Blues in League Two have plagued him over the past few years.

After receiving a 12-month contract extension last summer, Jones was able to return to full fitness. Manager Mark Robins was eager to give the gifted winger/attacking midfielder the chance to reach the necessary standards and resume his form, which attracted Leeds United’s attention in the Championship before the 2018 January transfer window.

The former Dagenham and Redbridge prospect has had to be patient this season when he’s been handed one start in the EFL Cup and nine second half substitute appearances, seven in the league and two in the FA Cup. He caught the eye in particular with influential cameo displays to help City gain a point at Bournemouth and Huddersfield.

His last showing was in the thrilling 2-1 extra-time defeat at Premier League Southampton in the FA Cup in early February. He was then an unused sub in the following three games before being forced to take time out for the next two matches with swelling to a knee.
