It is not mandatory that NFL teams wear their throwback uniforms on Thanksgiving, but it should be.

Something about the simplicity of an old-school football uniform just feels like it goes hand-in-hand with the NFL’s marquee holiday. The blank helmets, the threads with minimal design, it makes the game feel like football in its purest form.

For NFL Thanksgiving in 2023, the Lions, Cowboys and 49ers have all committed to the bit.

When Detroit hosts the Packers at Ford Field, it will be rocking its simple blue uniforms and all-grey helmets. When Dallas takes on the Commanders at AT&T Stadium, it will don its classic navy blue and white throwbacks. While the Seahawks disappointed everyone in declining to wear their recently renewed throwbacks, the 49ers are picking up the slack with a clean all-white old-school look.

The Lions will be rocking their throwback uniforms against the Packers on Thanksgiving, and looks don’t get much more simple.

This get-up is a tribute to the first-ever uniforms worn by the Lions franchise back in 1934, the year their Thanksgiving tradition began. It’s a plain blue jersey with silver block lettering, accompanied by a silver helmet with no logos or decals.
