SAD NEWS: Eagles key player suffers career-ending injury..

Released from the practice squad of the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday, Cam Sims signed with the practice squad of the Carolina Panthers on Wednesday.

The return of former Athens High School standout Quez Watkins from injured reserve during the past two games gave the Eagles a strong set of wide receivers with Watkins joining 1,000-yard receiver A.J. Brown, former Alabama stars Julio Jones and DeVonta Smith and Olamide Zaccheaus.

The Panthers have 10-year veteran Adam Thielen as their top target in 2023, joined by rookie Jonathan Mingo, DJ Chark, Terrace Marshall Jr. and Laviska Shenault Jr. as the leading wide receivers.

Each NFL team can elevate two players from its practice squad for each game, but Sims did not play during his time on the practice squads of the New York Giants and Philadelphia in 2023.

Carolina is the former Alabama wide receiver’s fourth team since he became a free agent in March.

Sims signed with the Las Vegas Raiders, but Las Vegas released him when it reduced its preseason roster to the regular-season limit of 53 active players on Aug. 29.

Sims joined the Giants on Sept. 4 and was released on Oct. 10.

The Eagles signed Sims for their practice squad on Thursday, then let him go on Tuesday.

In 2022 during his fifth season with the Washington Commanders, Sims had eight receptions for 89 yards while on the field for 328 offensive snaps and 244 special-teams plays in 17 games.

After catching 41 passes for 467 yards and two touchdowns in four seasons at Alabama, Sims made Washington’s regular-season roster as an undrafted rookie in 2018. But Sims sustained a season-ending injury on the opening kickoff of the first game.

Sims came back to catch 57 passes for 804 yards and three touchdowns in 54 games over the next four seasons with Washington.
