The Bahrain Grand Prix marked the start of the Red Bull season, and Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko called Sergio Perez’s performance “impeccable.”

Perez turned in a strong fifth-place qualifying effort to take second, giving Red Bull their first top-three result since the September Italian Grand Prix.

Perez, who started ahead of Carlos Sainz and went on to pass Charles Leclerc and George Russell, had a good drive.

Even though Perez finished more than 20 seconds behind teammate Max Verstappen, his primary goal should be to trail the Dutchman if he is to stay with Red Bull in 2025.

Marko stated following the race, as cited by Total Motorsport: “It wouldn’t have made any sense to push the pace.” There was no way Sainz could move because he had him under control. Thus, Perez never pushed and made the perfect tactical decision. Stated differently, there was no compelling reason for him to drive at a quicker pace. It was a flawless performance.Early in the race, Perez got into a tight battle with Russell and the two Ferraris.

The Mexican believed that the race had been affected by the earlier deployment of DRS, which is now accessible to drivers after just one lap. It’s always excellent to make good progress, he said, “yeah, starting from P5”. There were numerous conflicts taking place here, and when that occurs, you simply adopt a completely other tactic. In traffic, you are swerving considerably more.

And all in all, I believe the team’s performance is excellent. Yes, early on, the race between the Ferraris and the Mercs was rather close. Naturally, since we had completed a lap earlier, we were struggling with the DRS. It only modifies a handful of external factors.
