FRISCO: Significant changes to NFL contracts don’t occur by themselves. However, they do work in an echo chamber, and now that Chris Jones has signed a record-breaking contract with the Kansas City Chiefs, the echoes will be loud enough to reverberate all the way to The Star in Frisco.

Micah Parsons is able to hear them, yes.

Jones has agreed to a five-year agreement with the Chiefs that includes a $95 million guarantee. Jones has made the Pro Bowl in each of the last five seasons, was named to the First Team All-Pro in the last two, and assisted Kansas City in winning two straight Super Bowls.Though the figures are a little hazy, Jones is comparable to 49ers wide receiver Nick Bosa ($34 million APY), Rams wide receiver Aaron Donald ($31.7 million), Steelers wide receiver T.J. Watt ($28 million), Chargers wide receiver Joey Bosa ($27 million), and Browns wide receiver Myles Garrett ($25 million).

Yes, in the end, it is the wise money’s opinion—”money” being the operative word here—that Micah Parsons will ask the Dallas Cowboys to sign him to a contract that is better than any of them.

To the Chiefs’ and Jones’ credit, they completed this approximately 36 hours before Monday’s NFL free-agent “legal tampering” session started.
