The Livingston match will act as a trial, following which the club will decide whether to repeat the scheme for further fixtures of a similar magnitude. Four Lads Had A Dream posted on Twitter [9 January]: “Great move and maximising our supporters is a good thing.”

The club stress that this scheme will only be rolled out for games in which the away fans do not take up a large allocation. That means visiting clubs are not being cheated out of tickets – they are there for them if they want them. As with this Livingston example on 3 February, though, there are enough seats in the Club Deck to accommodate those making the trip to Ibrox for the Scottish Premiership clash

That will free up more tickets for Rangers supporters, making for – you hope – a better atmosphere all around. More than 20,000 supporters are on the season ticket waiting list, so it is clear that something had to be done to help with that type of demand. It is a scheme that makes perfect sense on the face of it and should become a regular feature assuming this trial against Livingston goes well.

The Scottish newspaper, sharing reports from Africa, disclosed that Dessers could be in line for a place in Nigeria’s squad at the international tournament amid an injury to star striker Victor Boniface. Philippe Clement has had his hands tied in the attacking department recently, with Kemar Roofe and Danilo both suffering long-term injuries, and AFCON already taking Abdallah Sima away from Ibrox.
