Leeds United striker could require surgery on new blow as Farke issues injury update

Daniel Farke has stated that Joe Gelhardt, a striker for Leeds United, will be sidelined for at least “a few weeks” and may need surgery for a hand injury.
Injuries haven’t come easy for Leeds United in the early going this season. But Daniel Farke’s team has been getting into a groove and appears to be in the thick of things when it comes to the promotion battle.

Even though the Whites are currently ahead of Ipswich Town by nine points, Farke, his coaching staff, and the players will undoubtedly make every effort to maintain the pressure.

Friday’s matchup with Leicester City is huge, and Farke provided an update on Leeds United’s injury situation prior to the match.

Speaking to the media and as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, the Whites manager stated that, considering the fact that Djed Spence hasn’t resumed training, he is anticipated to return following the upcoming international break. However, Junior Firpo is getting closer to making a comeback after rejoining the team this week.

Concerns have been raised regarding Sam Byram, Crysencio Summerville, and Joe Rodon. However, the three Leeds United players practiced today (Wednesday), so assuming no objections, they will play against Leicester.

Finally, it appears like Joe Gelhardt, a striker, is ready for a stint out. A fractured hand was discovered means he’ll be out for at least a couple of weeks, but potentially longer if he requires surgery.

Another injured player

It will be interesting to see just what Farke’s Leeds United lineup looks like when the injury list has cleared, because he’s barely had a week where he’s had the entire ranks to pick from. Gelhardt’s injury only adds another name to the list, so it will be hoped he can avoid surgery and return to availability sooner rather than later.

The 21-year-old has found chances hard to come by in recent weeks, missing out on the matchday squad completely for the last three Championship games. However, the former Wigan Athletic youngster remains a player who could be a good option for Farke moving forward.

Hopefully the international break can provide a chance for those carrying knocks to rest up and for those currently on the sidelines to regain some fitness and make progress in their respective recoveries. Farke will need as many Leeds United players available as possible as they set about the task of closing the gap to the top two.
