Melbourne star Steven May has been discharged from hospital after spending a night under care, requiring treatment for an allergic reaction.
A photo of May was posted to social media on Sunday morning by his partner Sachi Dade, with the premiership Demon lying on a hospital bed with an apparent swollen right eye.
Dade looked to make light of the situation on Instagram, with May also seeming to be in good spirits.
“Why does he have to try and die before we go on our holiday?!🙄” Dade wrote.
“What I am happy about though is that I can say I saved his life forever now 😏 This will definitely have its advantages 😈😂.”
According to The Age, Melbourne is confident May will be fine after he was cleared to leave the hospital, however the cause of anaphylaxis – understood to be due to food May had eaten – is currently unknown.
The timing of the health concern comes weeks into Melbourne’s off-season and just days after the club’s best and fairest count.
May finished in fifth for the Keith ‘Bluey’ Truscott Memorial Trophy, with midfielder Christian Petracca taking out the honour for the second time in his career.
The Demons defender, 31, played 23 games for Melbourne this year to bring up his 200th career game – 93 of which came with the Gold Coast Suns before 2019.
Senior AFL players aren’t expected to return to pre-season training until early December before a break over the new year before returning to the track in January.
