With a little over half of a season left in the Packers’ 2023 campaign, let’s look at some temperature checks on this year’s roster — based on the reactions from you, the fans.
I’m pretty surprised by the fan confidence results over the last two weeks. Maybe I’m not putting enough emphasis on the team actually winning games, but I’m more hopeful coming out of last week’s loss to the Steelers than after their win against the Rams — mostly because Los Angeles didn’t have an NFL quarterback under center for that game. When the passing game shows signs of life, the line goes up for me! It looks like fan confidence, overall, has flattened out over the last two weeks, though.
By far, the winner for the biggest draft need for the Packers next year goes to the offensive line. Luckily, there’s going to be plenty of options for Green Bay at the top of the draft. It should surprise anyone if four tackle prospects are in the conversation in the first half of the first round. At left tackle, those options are Penn State’s Olu Fashnu and Notre Dame’s Joe Alt. At right tackle, it’s Alabama’s J.C. Latham and Georgia’s recently returned Amarius Mims. The wildcard is Oregon State’s Talises Fuaga, another right tackle who is a rising prospect.
This is a really interesting poll result to me for a couple of reasons. It seems like the fan base is sold on Dontayvion Wicks, who was selected for both of the top options here. If I’m reading this data correctly, it appears that the pecking order for Packers fans right now is: Wicks, Romeo Doubs and then lastly Christian Watson.
That’s really telling, as Jayden Reed, the team’s leading receiver, wasn’t an option in this poll because he plays in the slot. Do people really think Watson is the fourth-best receiver on the team? I know the numbers are bad right now, but I would lean on him — even as just a deep-route receiver — over Doubs.
