Patrick Bamford is yet to start for Leeds United under Daniel Farke and the striker was asked about his comeback from a hamstring injury suffered during pre-season

Patrick Bamford admits waiting to make his first Leeds United start of the season and rebuilding his fitness through minutes over time is the ‘sensible’ approach. The Whites’ number nine is yet to be named in the starting eleven under Daniel Farke, having picked up a hamstring injury in the closing stages of pre-season.

Bamford’s first appearance came as a late substitute in the defeat at Southampton on September 30, and the striker has gone to make a further seven substitute appearances. Leeds’ form, and in particular the impressive displays of Georginio Rutter and Joel Piroe, have also blocked the 30-year-old’s route back into the team.

Bamford’s longest cameo outing so far was a 25-minute spell in the home victory over QPR last month, with his latest outing lasting just a minute in the win over Plymouth Argyle. The one-cap England international was asked about his injury status and his comeback on the first episode of his new podcast series with comedian Joe Wilkinson.

He told My Mate’s A Footballer podcast: “I did all of pre-season until the last game which was when I got the injury. It was about seven or eight weeks, and then you kind of you’re training with the team and building up your sharpness. The sensible thing is to integrate you slowly in terms of minutes, keep giving you more and more minutes as the weeks go on.”

Farke’s team sit third in the Championship table, and return to action after the international break with a trip to face Rotherham United on November 24.
