Tottenham have yet to decide what to do with Giovani Lo Celso in the January transfer window as clubs remain interested in signing him. That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who say Real Betis are now the top choice after Barcelona look set to drop him for good.

It turns out that the Catalans are now focusing on youngsters Yamali and Fermin, so they have ruled out a deal for Lo Celso, having targeted him all summer.

It means the player’s chance of a move away from Tottenham is now gone as he continues to struggle under Ange Postecoglou.

He is yet to return from injury but does not appear to be in the Australian’s plans as Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma have been successful as a midfield duo. Their developing relationship and Tottenham’s success earlier in the season means Lo Celso is unlikely to join, although Postecoglou has ruled out a move and insisted he wants him this summer. He and Tottenham are “yet to decide” on the midfielder’s future and it seems Postecoglou is waiting to see how he does after his injury. Before that, however, he gave him only 16 minutes.

“Even the player doesn’t know” what his future will be, with a decision still undecided at Tottenham and his starting chances seemingly on the sidelines.

Betis were not yet relegated and they would take him back knowing that the player also wanted to return if he couldn’t get to Barcelona. Work has already been done on that front in the summer and it could be reactivated if Spurs finally decide to make a decision.
