Willy Gnonto, a winger for Leeds United who left Italy early in his career and joined FC Zurich before the Whites, has spoken about his life and the weather in West Yorkshire.

Leeds are gearing up for their seventh game of the season in the Championship this evening with a trip to Hull City on the cards tonight.

Willy Gnonto will be hoping for another start after leaving the New Den battered and bruised in a selfless display that helped tee up a 3-0 win.

What’s the latest with Gnonto?

Gnonto’s refusal to play for Daniel Farke at Elland Road in the face of intense transfer interest and subsequent submission of an official transfer request in the lead-up to Leeds’ game at home against Gnonto caused significant controversy in August.

Daniel Farke brought him back for the trip to Ipswich Town, where he scored in a 4-3 win, going on to be named in every starting XI since.

Gnonto comments on life in Leeds

The Italian has now opened up about his life in West Yorkshire in an interview with Sportsmediaset, where he commented on the less-than-ideal weather in Leeds:

“Life here is very different, but when it comes to food, I’m very lucky because I can go with my parents. The hardest thing to decipher is always the weather, it’s a bit sad here… However, the positive side is the level of football, it’s unbelievable. I have been to many stadiums and the atmosphere is amazing. However, I think abroad there is more admiration for Serie A than we think, it is a tournament that has made history and there is a lot more admiration for ‘Italy than the championship itself ‘.

Weather has been an issue for a number of signings that have moved to England in the past, and Gnonto might be used to better climates.

However, it’s not something that is going to be stopping him from playing for us in the gruelling cold nights in the winter schedule.

Perhaps Gnonto sees himself playing at the highest level, and there’s chance that he’ll get that opportunity in the future, but not yet.

The Serie A looks to be where his heart lies long-term, as much as he wants to play in the Premier League.
