Dons make off-season changes and add the former North fitness boss.
Under head coach Brad Scott, the Bombers’ football department welcomes back another well-known face Jona Segal, the high performance manager from North Melbourne, will be joining Essendon’s strength and conditioning program. This is the latest addition to the Bombers’ football department’s succession of appointments.

Segal has held several positions at the team since 2000. From 2017 to 2020, he served as the Roos’ head of high performance, collaborating with Brad Scott, the current coach of the Bombers and a previous North captain.

He had worked for the Roos for a long period as a dietitian and strength and conditioning coach before leaving at the end of 2021.

Segal will have a part-time role with the Bombers’ high performance squad. The club had a change in the area when Conor Daly, the former strength and conditioning coach, left to accept a position with the NBA franchise, the Milwaukee Bucks.

Following Josh Mahoney’s departure to the AFL, Daniel McPherson was named Essendon’s new football manager during the off-season. Essendon has continued to make staff changes.

The Bombers have appointed veteran football tactician David Rath as their manager of coaching innovation and game strategy, and Essendon has appointed Ben Robbins as director of psychology and health.

Matt Rosa was also named by Essendon as its new operations and talent manager.
