In their first season with Sean Payton as their head coach, the Denver Broncos have been one of the worst teams in the entire NFL.

Surprisingly, the Broncos earned their second win of the year on Sunday when they managed to edge out the Green Bay Packers by a final score of 19-17.

After the victory, Payton commented on Denver holding on for the win while also pointing out that the team still has a lot to work on this season in order to be consistently successful, via the team on YouTube.

“I’m happy we won, I am. But there’s some things that, from [my] experience, that you know need to get fixed or they will cost you or have already cost us, and those are the things that keep you up at night.”

Payton has been coaching in the NFL for a very long time (since 1997, to be exact), and he’s helped lead multiple teams to winning seasons, so he knows what it takes to be successful in the league.

So, while he likely is happy the Broncos were able to defeat the Packers and get their second win of the year on Sunday, his past experiences as an NFL head coach and assistant coach have taught him that Denver still has a ways to go if they are going to ever get back to being a contender in the AFC.

Plus, no matter how much the Broncos improve in the near future under Payton, they’re going to have Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs always standing in their way of the top of the AFC West for at least another handful of years.

But that’s part of the work Payton is referring to when he talks about there still being things Denver needs to fix.

If the Broncos want to compete with the best, then they need to continue doing more things right than wrong like they did on Sunday.
