Shannon Sharpe has responded to a fan questioning his opinion on WNBA rookie Caitlin Clark not being part of the Women’s USA team for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Team USA revealed its roster that will travel to France for the summer Olympics and many were surprised that the Indiana Fever guard wasn’t included.

Many thought that Team USA should’ve included Clark on the national team, but she did not make the cut. However, Sharpe, together with Stephen A. Smith, believes that the rookie should’ve been included.

A fan didn’t agree with their opinions on the matter and called them out on social media.

“Never thought I’d see the day @shannonsharpe and @stephenASmith would advocate to put a [sic] “unproven” player above the team when a gold medal is on the line,” a fan posted on X.

Sharpe didn’t let it pass as he argued why he thinks Clark should’ve been part of the squad.

“They’ve won 7 str8 gold medals and women’s hasn’t been talked about like this until CC showed up,” Sharpe responded.

Since 1996, the women’s Team USA basketball has dominated the Olympic games. They’ve consistently won the gold medal and have not finished the tournament with a silver medal since 1976. The last time the women’s team won the bronze medal, was back in 1992.

Clark has experience playing internationally. In 2017, she was part of the FIBA Under-16 Women’s Americas team which finished the tournament in Buenos Aires, Argentina with a gold medal. The former Iowa star also won gold when she participated in the FIBA Under-19 Women’s Basketball World Cup in 2019 and 2021.
