Coventry City’s 6 game winless streak came to an end with a 3-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers thanks to a brace from ELLIS Simms.
Following Josh Eccles’ deflected shot in the second half, Simms scored twice in a 12-minute span. Kenneth Paal added a late consolation goal for the home team at Loftus Road.

As a result of the outcome, Coventry is currently ranked 14th in the Championship after nine games.

Lyndon Dykes’ near-post header was deflected around the post at full stretch by Sky Blues goalkeeper Ben Wilson, giving QPR the first real opportunity of the game to take the lead.

Simms was put through on goal by Matty Godden’s flick-on for Coventry early in the second half, but the striker shot straight at Rangers goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.

On 56 minutes, though, Simms finally broke the scoreless tie when he fired a 10-yard shot through Begovic’s legs after Luis Binks had headed Jay Dasilva’s free-kick into the striker’s path.

Four minutes later, Godden’s blocked attempt landed delightfully into the path of Eccles, who had his 20-yard strike ricochet in off of Osman Kakay to double City’s lead.

After Jamie Allen’s superb low assist, Simms finished high into the goal at the back post to give the Sky Blues the victory after 68 minutes.

In the last seconds, QPR added a consolation goal through Paal, who converted off a cut-back from Sinclair Armstrong.

On Wednesday, October 4, Blackburn Rovers will visit Coventry, with kickoff scheduled for 7.45 p.m. at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
