In an interview with The Athletic, Jordan Henderson gave Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the owners of Liverpool, a resounding endorsement.

The former Reds captain spoke highly of the reign of the current ownership on Merseyside while admitting that he left Anfield this summer because he didn’t feel desired by key executives at the club.

The 33-year-old said of FSG:

“Honestly, I can only say positive things about this property. They were very good. Everyone is clear.

“When they come and get the club to where it is today and what they have achieved in that time – around the same time as me – is truly remarkable.

“These people are smart people. They know what they’re doing. It’s not a club that will spend a hundred, two hundred, three hundred million on a player.

“They know what they need and sometimes, in my situation, it’s not pleasant. But it’s the best thing for the club. That’s what’s best for the team.

Henderson added:

“I always feel like they are always in the best interests of the club. They never take money out of the club. They reinvested everything in the club, from the stadium, the training ground to the players. But at the same time, they are also smart in their use of money.

Despite the fact that I tried in the past to convince some players otherwise, “They’re not going to go and spend a tremendous amount of fees and wages on players because it will disrupt the structure! They uphold their values, and it has produced results.
