According to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany, the defensive team of Japhet Tanganga and Kevin Mbabu will soon join Augsburg.

Tanganga will transfer from Tottenham Hotspur to the new team on a season-long loan with a €6 million buy option. Tanganga has yet to play this season and has had difficulty getting playing time in recent years, thus Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou does not currently have him in his plans.

The 24-year-old can play as a right defender or a centre back, giving Augsburg versatility, and he will be aiming for consistent starts to restart his career.

He is scheduled to become Augsburg’s first signing of the day while getting his medical in Germany

Mbabu from Fulham will also join on a season-long loan. The Swiss international made just six Premier League appearances for Fulham in the previous campaign before being loaned to Servette FC in Switzerland in January.

Raphael Framberger, the right back for Augsburg, ruptured his cruciate ligament and will be out for a while. Mbabu will take his place and is expected to enter the lineup right away because Arne Engels, a 19-year-old midfielder, has been filling in at right back for the past two games.

Prior to joining Fulham, Mbabu played for Wolfsburg, and he is eager to return to the Bundesliga. A deal should be closed this afternoon. The 28-year-old has just arrived in Augsburg.

Given that Augsburg has already given up nine goals in all competitions this season, it is not surprising that they are trying to bolster their defensive.
