The Mumbai Indians captain, Hardik Pandya, is scheduled to land in New York on Sunday afternoon Eastern Time. Since the conclusion of his team’s season, Pandya—who has been subject to harsh criticism about his leadership and individual performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL)—has been taking vacations overseas. He is his route to join the Indian team, according to reliable sources close to him.

Pandya was not with the Indian cricket squad when they left Mumbai for New York on Saturday night because he was still abroad. Pandya needs some time off after a challenging IPL season on both a personal and professional level. He will return in time for the first practice session in New York, despite his recent setbacks. Under Rohit Sharma, Pandya serves as vice captain. He is getting ready for the T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in the US and the West Indies from June 1–29.

Pandya’s poor performance in the IPL raised doubts about his leadership as the Mumbai Indians finished last in the standings. MI coach Mark Boucher had hoped Pandya would learn something from the experience.

“I think that a lot of what he’s going through is a little unnecessary. There will undoubtedly be a learning curve for Hardik as his leadership develops. Even though things are hard right now, they will get better, which will make him a stronger leader and advance him in his position, Boucher told the media.
