However, it appears the 20-year-old might not participate in the Eredivisie team’s European campaign in the autumn because the winger is set to move to London for €40 million (£34.3 million). Bakayoko has undoubtedly started the season strong, having contributed four assists in as many Champions League qualification games to help PSV advance to the group stage (Transfermarkt). He might have offered Liverpool an exciting right-sided offensive option to Mo Salah at Anfield, but with their wealth of options up front, they won’t suffer too much if they pass on the young Belgian. The quest for another midfielder may soon come to an end when this evening’s news broke of a deal being reached with Bayern Munich for Ryan Gravenberch for the same fee that Bakayoko is expected to cost Brentford (The Athletic). Other areas of the team have been in far greater need of attention. If Liverpool can complete the transfer of the 21-year-old for a comparable cost, they may feel they have got a comparable bargain given that the Dutch midfielder has significantly more experience playing in pivotal moments than the PSV winger. The Belgian international would have been a fantastic player for Klopp to have, but this summer, the Reds had much more urgent needs, and it was always crucial that the midfield was handled during the soon-to-end transfer window.
