Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Ethan Horvath could be about to leave the club in the coming days. The Reds stopper has been on the bench for the opening five matches of the 2023/24 campaign.

According to The Athletic, time could be up for Horvath at Forest. He will fall down the pecking order after Odysseas Vlachodimos was added to the ranks from Benfica on transfer deadline day.

Horvath was the club’s first summer signing of the 2021/22 campaign. He was added to the ranks to provide competition for Brice Samba and he’s made 11 appearances for the club in total.

Last season, Horvath left Forest on loan to sign for Luton Town. After making 20 clean sheets and helping the club win promotion to the Premier League, it came as a surprise when they chose not to sign him permanently.

At 28-years-old, the player will be craving regular football this season. He will want to push Matt Turner hard for a place in the international team and he won’t do that as a third-choice goalkeeper.

There are still a few transfer windows open in different parts of the world. Horvath will therefore attempt to secure a move away from Forest in the upcoming days.

Horvath received a lot of appreciation from Chris Hughton while he was at the club. He praised the player for making several outstanding saves during the game after a Carabao Cup loss to Wolves, calling him “excellent.”

Horvath set to leave Forest

It would be ideal if Forest could hook Horvath up with something permanent. Both Turner and Vlachodimos are 29 and as a result, they could be the two goalkeepers for some time now.

Horvath simply craves game time at the moment. He needs to play and after playing regularly for Luton during 2022/23, it will be a culture shock not to be involved as a first choice this season.

The Reds have done well to get lots of players out of the club this summer on either loan or permanently. Now, they have to help Horvath out and find him a club to go to, even if it’s until January on some kind of loan deal.
