Everton signed Dele Alli from Tottenham in January 2022 and the former England international is now back on Merseyside after spending last season on loan at Besiktas

Everton manager Sean Dyche has said he is considering the possibility of renegotiating Dele Alli’s contract in light of financial challenges as discussions continue over the club’s future ownership.

Dele joined from Tottenham midway through the 2021/22 season at a discounted price and included a number of add-ons. One would be that the Toffees would have to pay Spurs £10m after his first 20 appearances for the club.

The midfielder made 13 appearances for Everton before joining Besiktas on loan in the 2022-23 season, but returned to Goodison Park after a setback in training and is working his way back to full fitness. Dyche has now suggested that director of football Kevin Thelwell may need to speak to Tottenham to find a solution.

“[Dele] is not ready [to play] yet, when he is fit and well I am sure Kev will go to Tottenham and say ‘Right, how can we make this work for everyone’,” Dyche told reporters ahead of Everton’s trip to Brentford. “It has never been at that stage so we have to wait for it.

“He was training with us, warming up and doing the drills, and he strikes the ball and is knocked back to square one. It was a real blow to him. He’d had an operation on his groin, they internally stitched it like an anchor inside his body, and one of them popped out having a shot and that was it.

“It was incredibly frustrating because he was feeling great. He is still a bit away yet, nowhere near training with us but is beginning to work with the sports science people.”

Dyche’s comments came after Everton owner Farhad Moshiri agreed a deal to sell the club to 777 Partners. The American investment firm already has stakes in a number of clubs in Europe, South America and Australia, but Dyche admitted that any acquisitions were still a long way off and his future as a manager had not been discussed. .

“No, not at all,” the former Burnley manager said after 777 managing director Josh Wonder visited Goodison Park. “We’re very relaxed at this point. They made it clear to those of us who attended the meeting that there’s still a long way to go before the agreement is final.” “To be honest, most of it was very casual, it was just impressions of what I had learned in my time here – and of course other people were also participating in the chat – but football As far as I was concerned, this was my impression of what I learned here about the challenges that lie ahead, and it was a very peaceful meeting.
