With the trade deadline a little over a month a way, the Philadelphia 76ers have a few more weeks to look for upgrades to the roster. One analyst recently shared his thoughts on them going after a two-time All-Star.

During a recent episode of NBA Today, a discussion broke out about Pascal Siakam following the OG Anunoby trade to the New York Knicks. That is where Kendrick Perkins shared his thoughts on the Sixers going after the versatile forward.

“I’m looking at Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid and what I’m looking at? I’m looking at a team that is missing a third star,” Perkins said. “We know what Pascal Siakam can do in a Nick Nurse system, that’s what helped them bring a championship. They did it together. When I think about the Philadelphia 76ers and I think about adding that piece to the duo of Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, send him to Philly.”

Siakam, who will turn 30 later this year, is still playing at an All-Star-level for the Raptors. In 34 games, he is averaging 22.4 PPG, 6.6 RPG, and 4.9 APG.

From a fit perspective, there are positives and negatives for a player like Siakam. As Perkins mentioned, he’s proven in the past that he is capable of being the second-best player on a championship team. However, his inconsistent three-point shooting could impact the offense at times next to Embiid and Maxey. So far this season, Siakam is shooting 28.8% from deep on 3.7 attempts per game.

One thing that might entice the Sixers to make a move like this is Siakam’s contract. Since he is a free agent at the end of the year, the team can potentially upgrade the roster while maintaining future flexibility. If the fit doesn’t work, they can simply let him walk in the summer.
