A move to north London has so far been an easy one for the 26-year-old, who admits this is another Spurs legend he is looking to emulate:
Paul Gascoigne.
Naive enough to go there and think there’s no way Kane can leave Tottenham. I didn’t go to Tottenham because of Kane.
“I know there’s a chance Harry will leave, but it’s not that bad. There was a very good atmosphere with the arrival of the new manager and new players, and I did not feel any discomfort from the previous managers. “There are overtones around the more defensive and negative football and I don’t feel sick from it. Everyone is sitting on a new table and there is a really good energy and a really good atmosphere in the club.
“I think Harry is the best number nine in the world and I would love to play with him more than a few pre-season games. But Bayern is a big club and I wish Harry all the best.
“Harry is probably the best player to ever play for Tottenham, he is certainly one of the greatest. He has cemented his legacy as a legend and has nothing left to prove.
“But we have excellent players at Spurs. The front line and most importantly we can be very flexible with how the coach wants us to play.
Kane is Spurs’ all-time top scorer with 278 goals, but it’s Gascoigne that Maddison is looking to compete with at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The former attacking midfielder has made 96 appearances for the club and is the icon the Spurs summer signing has watched since his youth.
“My father used to put football videos together. He’s a graphic designer and computer savvy – and Gazza has a lot going for it.
“Before you turned pro, you were a fan and I liked players with personality, players with a little sassy, over your standards.
Gazza is a perfect example. I remember a clip of the camera being shot while singing the national anthem and it happened to him, he stuck his tongue out and started playing with the camera and his eyes went blurry.
” I love it. That’s why I love interacting with my fans and showing my personality. I don’t know if you’ve seen the clip of me kicking the ball from the far corner to the Bournemouth fans – that’s what I love to do, it makes me crave.
“I like the stage element that almost becomes the villain. That’s why I love watching it and that’s why I love playing it. But trying to be a performer is not a conscious thing. That’s the way I am. I go to dinner with my family and I like being the male lead.
Maddison is on international duty with England and could feature in the Euro 2024 qualifying match against Ukraine on Saturday.
