The latest Nottingham Forest transfer news as the Reds were said to have made a bid for the midfielder during the summer transfer window

Nottingham Forest continue to be linked with an interest in Benfica midfielder Florentino Luis, but could face more competition, according to reports in Portugal.

According to reports, Forest had a keen interest in the 24-year-old player and had at least one €30 million deal for him rejected during the summer transfer window. Ibrahim Sangare, the top target, arrived on deadline day, although Forest are reportedly still interested.

O Jogo reports that European powerhouses Barcelona and Bayern Munich, along with Premier League rivals Forest and Fulham, are all interested. It is alleged that any of those teams might provide Benfica with an offer that is too great to turn down.

Prior to the January transfer window, the Portuguese club is reportedly already searching for potential successors as they get ready for a potential exit. Luis’ contract with the club has four years left to run, but it does have a €120 million release clause, even though it would likely take much less to persuade the club to sell.

Luis was an unused substitute in Benfica’s 4-0 win over Vitoria Guimaraes. He started his first game of the season against Gil Vicente the week before, playing 75 minutes of the game in a 3-2 win.

The fact that Forest engaged with Benfica throughout the summer transfer window and acquired keeper Odysseas Vlachodimos on the final day of the window may be a benefit. When Forest and Burnley square off at the City Ground on Monday night, the Greek international might make his debut.
