Just three weeks after Vanderbilt gave Craig Tutt his first scholarship offer, he visited Tennessee’s campus for the first time and came away with an offer from the Vols. They made a good first impression on him while he was there.

The Class of 2026 safety from Oakland High School in Murfreesboro, Tenn., said the offer he received from Tennessee during his visit Nov. 4 for the Vols’ homecoming game against Connecticut “was very unexpected.” Tutt said he was excited by the news, and while his recruitment is just getting started, he said he expects Tennessee to be “up there” on his list.

Looking for a preview of Tennessee’s facing its complete opposite in one of the more interesting matchups of this bowl season? There’s a GoVols247 Podcast for that.

GoVols247’s Wes Rucker (from Fort Rucker Studio) and Ben McKee (from his unnamed home studio) convened via the magic of The Internets to discuss 21st-ranked Tennessee being matched up with 17th-ranked Iowa in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl on New Year’s Day at Camping World Stadium in Orlando

and his Vols went into the season hoping to take the next step forward and get to the College Football Playoff, but things went a different way. Tennessee was given arguably the biggest non-CFP, non-New Year’s Six bowl game, though. And the Vols were given one of the most interesting opponents on the board. Tennessee and Iowa play drastically different versions of football, making this game one of the more interesting bowl games that doesn’t have championship implications. The Hawkeyes are elite defensively and on special teams, but their offense is … well … not elite. That’s probably the nicest way to put it.
