The Padel Club, a cutting-edge indoor sports venue with nine padel courts, is set to transform Gloucester Quays Retail Park.

Designed by wellness experts, this innovative £1 million social sports facility promises an unparalleled player experience.

Strategically located within the former Toys R Us retail warehouse, The Padel Club Gloucester Quays boasts nine purpose-built, high-specification panoramic padel courts and a spacious clubhouse. Rain or shine, players can enjoy year-round padel play and socialising.

Kris Ball, founder and CEO of The Padel Club, said: “It is incredibly exciting to see the designs of our Gloucester Quays Club. We are now full steam ahead and working hard to get the site built and operational at the earliest opportunity.

“We are looking forward to bringing our club to Gloucester Quays Retail Park and we are looking forward to being a thriving social hub amongst so many other great businesses in the area.”

Bruce Edmondson, development director for Peel Retail and Leisure, said: “We are incredibly excited to welcome The Padel Club to Gloucester Quays Retail Park. The addition of this innovative sports facility aligns perfectly with our vision to provide diverse and high-quality amenities to our visitors.

“The Padel Club will not only attract sports enthusiasts but also create a lively community hub where people can come together, stay active, and enjoy a new and exciting activity. We wish them every success”.

Leading wellness design experts Zynk Design have been appointed to bring the vision for the interiors, exteriors and social spaces of The Padel Club Gloucester Quays.

State-of-the-art Sports LED lighting ensures optimal visibility on each court. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a beginner, the well-lit environment enhances the playing experience. Spectatorship takes centre stage. Comfortable seating areas surround the courts, creating an inviting space for friends, family, and community members to enjoy matches and tournaments.

Encouraging padel player connections and creating a strong sense of sociability is critical to The Padel Club’s values. Zynk Design have worked extensively with The Padel Club to ensure the layout encourages social interaction and networking among players, members, and visitors, strengthening the club’s identity as a social hub.

Chris Illingworth of Zynk Design said: “Our design has been created with an emphasis on social interaction, competition, and community that caters to different aspects of the sport and its social culture. At the heart of the facility will be the courts themselves, designed to meet professional standards, ensuring an optimal playing experience for all skill levels.

“The main competition court is furnished with mini ‘grandstand spectator seating’, allowing friends, family, and community members to watch games comfortably. This set-up fosters a sense of excitement and support, crucial for both casual matches and intense competitions.

“Beyond the courts, the facility will feature a spacious and inviting ‘clubhouse’ area, serving as the social hub. This clubhouse zone includes comfortable seating, casual work area, retail display as well as the café bar serving hot and cold refreshments, all acting as the heart of the facility where players can socialise and relax.”

Social experience is imperative to padel players and The Padel Club is welcoming to all players. No membership fees – just a commitment to creating connections and enjoying the game. Introductions to padel and coaching sessions are easily bookable via the Playtomic AppApp.

The Padel Club interior design and aesthetic will offer a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere with a modern setting; the clubhouse will include an onsite cafe offering nutritious wraps, salads, smoothies and juices throughout the day. A bar will also be installed serving up local beers and ciders and The Padel Club’s own special blend of coffee, crafted by Neighbourhood Coffee will be available.

The clubhouse will also have its own retail store; offering padel essentials, best in class rackets; performance wear and exclusive merchandise.

Sports commentator and former England cricket captain Michael Vaughan, who is an original investor in The Padel Club and strong advocate for the sport, joined the celebrations, adding: “It’s brilliant to see the designs of the Gloucester Quays club. We are very excited for the conversion to begin; it will have more courts to attract more padel players and, once completed; having many players enjoying the sociability at Gloucester Quays.”

Jos Buttler, England T20 cricket captain, said: “Padel really is the on-trend sport! Whenever I get the opportunity to play, around my cricket schedule and home life, it’s always a good time. Padel is incredibly addictive. Since my first play I just want to get back on court. The announcement that The Padel Club have acquired a site in Gloucester is exciting news.”

The start on site at Gloucester Quays will be a significant milestone for The Padel Club as they expand UK wide, with Gloucester Quays Retail Park recently being announced as the location for their first site in the South West.

The conversion is expected to take approximately 12 weeks with completion of the site expected for October 2024.
