A report from the Liverpool Echo has shared further details after the club’s U21 side faced Morecambe in the EFL Trophy.

Barry Lewtas’ side won 3-0 against a mid-table League Two side.

Mateusz Musialowski, Calum Scanlon and Bobby Clark all scored before half-time in a comfortable game for the Red Devils.

It was an impressive performance from a young generation that Liverpool placed a lot of hope on.

16-year-old centre-back Carter Pinnington received plenty of praise from his manager after the match, while a number of players in the squad have recently broken into the first team.

Scanlon, Clark and James McConnell have all been given opportunities under Jurgen Klopp during pre-season. Clark is now expected to be in Liverpool’s EFL Cup squad next week, a sign of his excellent form in recent months.

He has impressed in this tournament and even had a chance to shine in the Champions League last season.

Clark scored a deflected goal on Tuesday night and the report states that “he is now expected to take part in the League Cup.”

The ‘incredible’ midfielder certainly has a big future ahead of him.

He has plenty of chances in pre-season, scoring against Leicester City in the cup next week. The 18-year-old has four goals in three games from midfield, which will make Klopp take notice of his performance.

However, Clark faced stiff competition from several other young players to earn a spot on the team.

Liverpool U21 vs Middlesbrough U21:

He hopes to repeat Stefan Bajcetic’s promotion to the first team, but faces a tougher task playing in the number eight role.

Besides current starters Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and new signing Ryan Gravenberch will have to battle for minutes.

Clark will have to seize his chance of winning the trophy when Liverpool play next week. If he can put in an impressive performance, there’s no reason why Klopp shouldn’t give him more chances, especially in the Europa League.
